All of us at Everett Recovery Café believe that mindfulness can play an important role in recovery, which is why we have a Mindful Thursday here. One component of our Thursdays is Mindful Movement Yoga taught by Sally.
Sally’s yoga is a nice and gentle variety of yoga. The sessions are comprised of between 10 – 20 movements. The session begins with standing poses and as the hour moves on, students will gradually come down to the floor, doing more gentle movements until it ends with Savasana, the final pose used for relaxation at the end of the session.
For individuals with mobility issues or those who are unable to do traditional floor poses, Sally is certified in Chair Yoga, so you can do modified poses seated in a chair or you can use the wall or post for help with balance.
The purpose of Mindful Movement Yoga is for you to get comfortable in your own body and have fun with the movements. You’re allowed to laugh, cry, scream or show any kind of emotions you want. Individuals with any level of experience with yoga are welcome to participate, from no experience all the way to advanced experience.
The Café has all the yoga equipment you’ll need. We have yoga mats, yoga blocks, straps, and bolsters (large pillows that help with some floor poses). You’re certainly welcome to bring your own equipment, but you only need to bring yourself and a willing to be open and to have fun.
Mindful Movement Yoga is on Thursdays, from 10am to 11am at the Café. It’s available free to all Café members.
