On March 22, 2024, the ladies of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas came to the Café to prepare and serve the annual Gratitude Meal. Based out of St. Mary Magdalene Church in Cascade View, the Daughters have been doing this for 4 years and the delicious menu was composed us Spiral Cut Ham, Company Potatoes, mixed vegetables, rolls, Caesar salad and assorted, pies, brownies, and cookies.
The kitchen was an absolute hive of activity as I came upon Michiko and JoAnn prepping lettuce for salad while Charlene portioned out the desserts and Sophie took on multiple tasks. Pam and Van set the tables, complete with pansies as a centerpiece. As the moment got closer, the food was staged for serving, final prep was done, tasks were strategized, and after regular noon announcements, it was time to eat a delicious meal.
The Daughters served Members and staff at the tables, a departure from the usual self-service lunch. The Members came in waves throughout the afternoon, but that was no problem for the Daughters, who served meals and chatted with Members. It was a successful and delicious afternoon and we are so blessed to have had the Catholic Daughters of the Americas here!
